Language translation development around the globe
The development of language translation happens around the world over as new technologies arise from day-to-day. A new development in document translation is a new system in the SRI lab that can “recognize words” and “understand simple foreign phrases”. This technology was created for military use, although translations are needed everywhere.
As quoted from the San Francisco Chronicle: IraqComm’s vocabulary of 40,000 words in English and 50,000 in Iraqi Arabic is designed to enable soldiers or medics to converse with civilians in a limited range of settings such as military checkpoints, door-to-door searches or first-aid situations.
The translations occurring from this new SRI lab technology are great for those in the military as it acts as a better bridge in the communication gap between those speaking different languages.
