UK language professionals now have a new tool to help identify and build interpreting skills.
UK language professionals, their employers, and those responsible for training and education now have a new tool to help identify and build interpreting skills. The revised National Occupational Standards in Interpreting have been defined by London’s CILT, the National Centre for Languages, and provide details of the skills and knowledge professional interpreters need to perform their work competently.
The standards set minimum acceptable levels of performance and clearly define what constitutes professional competence across the spectrum of language interpretation activity: conference; business and public service interpreting; spoken and sign-spoken language interpreting, training and education. The new guidelines emphasize the importance of preparing for interpretation tasks, continuing to practice and enhance interpreting performance, and working with other interpreters.
>Interpreters must have professional training and familiarity with their subject mattere as well as excellent language skills.
