The costs of interpretation and translation services are based on several factors:
WHO provides the service (PPS staff, independent contractor, outside agency)
TIME of day when services are provided, and duration of appointment
LANGUAGE(S) in which services are provided
FORMATTING, DIFFICULTY OF TEXT, DUE DATE (translation only)
Independent Contractors/Outside Agencies
Independent contractors and outside agencies are contracted to help meet interpretation/translation needs not met by district resources. Outside agencies have access to networks of local, national and international service providers that make it possible for them to offer services in hundreds of different languages.
COST
The costs for these services vary depending on the agency and the conditions of the request. Interpretation costs generally range from $28.50-45.00/hour with a one hour minimum.
Basic translation costs range from $.15-.38 cents/word plus desktop publishing and project management costs. Rush fees are charged for projects with short turnaround times.
SPECIAL EDUCATION
The Department of Special Education provides funding support for the interpretation costs associated with Special Education meetings.
OTHER FUNDING SOURCES
Please note that Title I or other supplemental funds may be used for interpretation/translation services that extend above and beyond these basic service needs.
